WHAT ARE WE UP TO.
Our project is to help children to achieve their goals in life, by getting support and help from the community to help our children to achieve well in their education, sports and life. We daily teach success through our moto “Be Free, Be Safe, Be You”.
URBAN RUINS ACTIVE CYCLE.
This active program is run by coach Papa G, P Mnisi. The aim is to empower children to learn proficiency and safety in cycling. Currently we boast 70 children who have learnt to ride. We have an elite team and it is our dream to be able to compete competitively.
Level 1, 2, 3 cyclists can attend on Monday and Fridays from 3pm at the Urban Ruins Projects.
URBAN RUINS ACTIVE X COUNTRY.
The x country program runs in collaboration with Reiger Park Active. Children train in x country during the week and participate in the Boksburg park Run on Saturdays. This year we plan to register a team in the ECG league.
Coach is Kanyiso Sambudla and Marshall Hartzenberg.
Children selected in this program have excelled at risk play and have a talent for gymnastics. Boksburg Gymnastics club takes our talented children and mentors them in gymnastics. Currently 5 of our children have achieved Gauteng colours and one child attended Nationals. He achieved a bronze medal.

URBAN FREE PLAY.
A free playground to get children off the streets. A challenging risk environment to develop each child’s neuromuscular profiles. Our environment helps all children develop better balance and physical and mental skills. Children have a right to play. Support us in developing our specialised playground. Children who play develop skills and develop self-esteem. This causes a ripple effect and children develop dreams, desires to excel at school and sports.
URBAN ORGANIC GARDEN.
The Urban Ruins has a fully functional, green on site organic garden. All staff and children and volunteers help to keep the garden growing. Gardening has a wonderful way of dissipating anger and depressions. Many of our vulnerable children are healing through their circumstances and find working and assisting in the garden fun and restorative. Green fingers heals the soul. The garden feeds the community at large.
Our daily feeding scheme for the children of Comet, plantation, Boksburg, Reiger park, Rhamaphosa, Angelo. The Urban Bite feeding scheme nourishes vulnerable children after school on a daily bases. Between 60-80 children walk to Urban ruins to receive a nourishing meal. Urban Bite runs 6 days a week.
URBAN MENTORSHIP THROUGH EXPERIENCES.
Our mentorship through experiences runs on a yearly bases. Urban Ruins raises funds to take children on adventures and to explore nature and city life. Children and Youth attend many workshops and in-house life skills coaching is done on a weekly bases. Children participate in arts and crafts and drumming and guitar lessons. Girls and boys at the Urban ruins are encouraged to learn Baseball. It builds character and sportsmanship, discipline and team work. Various workshops are held throughout the year and supported by the MLB and local baseball clubs.
URBAN PRESCHOOL AND GRADE R.
An informal pre-school for vulnerable impoverished children. We provide an ECD centre for 40 children. Fully qualified teachers and support staff.
URBAN AND INKAMVALETHU.
A New Project and undertaking by Urban Ruins Projects to mentor Ikamvalethu. Ikamvalethu is an NPO who aims to build a skills and training centre for people with disabilities. The centre will provide PHC and Rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Ikamvalethu plans to equip people with disabilities in a variety of skills to enter the job market place. We are currently researching learnerships and skills development support.
Our reading clinic has been running for 3 years.2017 we launched an Adult Learn to read clinic. Reading sets us free. We are always in need of volunteers to assist in the reading clinic.
URBAN COMPUTER AND HOMEWORK CLASSES.
Weekly our children are taught computer skills and wifi use is available for homework and projects. We are always thankful to homework assistants.
